00:00...
...

[1] 00:01Hi everybody. I have a quick question for you.

[2] 00:05What do think about your spoken English?

[3] 00:08Do you think your English is bad?

[4] 00:11A lot of people who want to speak English think this way.

[5] 00:14Because when they speak, they have trouble coming up with words.

[6] 00:18They make a lot of mistakes.

[7] 00:20Their sentence structure is just wrong.

[8] 00:23They believe that they're just bad at speaking English. And there's nothing they can do about

[9] 00:29it.

[10] 00:30Now If you are one of those people--if you think there's no way to improve your English,

[11] 00:36then I have something to tell you.

[12] 00:37You're wrong! You are just plain wrong.

[13] 00:42And In this video, I'm going to tell you why.

[14] 00:45Now I want you to think about experts and top performers in any field.

[15] 00:50Think about world class athletes like Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan.

[16] 00:55Here's my question for you:

[17] 00:57How good do you think they were in the beginning?

[18] 01:01Do you think they were excellent right from the start?

[19] 01:05No, of course not.

[20] 01:08They were terrible in the beginning.

[21] 01:11Tiger Woods was bad at golf when he began.

[22] 01:16Michael Jordan was bad at basketball when he began.

[23] 01:20The bottle line is this: when you start out something new, you're going to suck...really

[24] 01:26suck.

[25] 01:27You're going to make mistakes.

[26] 01:29You're going to look stupid.

[27] 01:32And the only way to get better is to keep doing it.

[28] 01:36And you'll get better over time.

[29] 01:39This is the truth. And it applies to everybody.

[30] 01:43But here's the most important question:

[31] 01:46If everybody sucks in the beginning, then what separates successful people from unsuccessful

[32] 01:52people?

[33] 01:53How is it possible that there can be English learners who are similar to each others--I

[34] 01:59mean they have the same level of intelligence, the have to same resources, but some of them

[35] 02:05managed to become good at spoken English while others cannot speak English at all?

[36] 02:12What's the difference?

[37] 02:14The answer is one word: Action.

[38] 02:18Successful people suck in the beginning just like anybody else, but they keep taking action.

[39] 02:25They keep learning. They keep practicing.

[40] 02:28Because they know that even though they are not good at speaking today, they're going

[41] 02:33to get better if they keep learning and practicing. So they take massive action.

[42] 02:41Unsuccessful people, on the other hand, don't take action very much.

[43] 02:44They try to speak English a little bit. They try to practice a little bit.

[44] 02:50But they quit very quickly.

[45] 02:52They start speaking and they start having trouble. They start making mistakes.

[46] 02:56And then they say "Oh....English is just not for me. It's too difficult. I'm just not good

[47] 03:02at language."

[48] 03:03And then they quit. They just give up immediately.

[49] 03:06So here's my challenge to you: After you watch this video, I want you talk

[50] 03:12about anything in English.

[51] 03:14And you just do it by yourself.

[52] 03:16You don't need to find someone to do it with to you.

[53] 03:20You can talk about anything you want.

[54] 03:22You can talk about yourself.

[55] 03:24You can talk about what happened yesterday.

[56] 03:27Or maybe you can talk about what you've learned from this video.

[57] 03:31It doesn't matter what you talk about.

[58] 03:33What matters is that you take action.

[59] 03:36And when you do that, I want you to keep two things in mind.

[60] 03:40Number one: you're going to suck.

[61] 03:44Just keep in mind that you're going make mistakes.

[62] 03:47You're going to say something confusing.

[63] 03:50Maybe you won't be able to speak at all.

[64] 03:54But be OK with that. That's normal.

[65] 03:58Everybody has to go through that.

[66] 03:59I mean this is my first Youtube video and as you can see, my drawing sucks.

[67] 04:06It's terrible. But I'm OK with that. I accept it.

[68] 04:10And you should be OK with your speaking as well.

[69] 04:14The second thing I want you to keep in mind is to keep taking action.

[70] 04:19Just keep learning--keep practicing.

[71] 04:22Because it doesn't matter if you suck today.

[72] 04:25The present does not equal the future.

[73] 04:28Just because you're bad at speaking now doesn't mean that you will always be bad at speaking.

[74] 04:34If you keep taking action, I guarantee that you will improve.

[75] 04:39You will get better.

[76] 04:40I mean the same is true for my drawing.

[77] 04:42It sucks today. But if I keep drawing--if I keep practicing, I'm going to get better.

[78] 04:48OK. So that's my challenge to you.

[79] 04:51And we've come to the the end of this video.
