e eu estou absolutamente fervendo
[13] 00:49and I have a whole wall of windows,
e também sem blusa de gola alta por hoje
[18] 01:02So I couldn't bring myself to do my hair
para sua língua nativa
[19] 01:05'cause it would just,
porque muitas pessoas têm esse problema
[21] 01:08and also no turtlenecks today.

[67] 03:02and if you look at the prices,
Ok, então, eu venho pensando nessa questão por um bom tempo
[68] 03:04it's actually very, very reasonable.
e eu até fiz algumas observações no meu celular
[70] 03:08than it is to go to an in person language school.
então tenham paciência comigo
[71] 03:11They've given me a discount for you.
então, como evitar traduzir para sua língua nativa?
[73] 03:15off your first month subscription at Lingoda
é não comece primeiro
[75] 03:19and using the discount code ENGLUCY6, ENGLUCY6.
algumas traduções são inevitáveis
[76] 03:25All the information is down there.
quero dizer, você vai traduzir
[77] 03:26Right, right, let's get started with the video.
o jeito que aprendemos na escola é:
[78] 03:33My God, it is so hot.
Amarillo= amarelo Naranja= laranja
[79] 03:36I bet all of you are in your country,
Nós aprendemos traduzindo
[80] 03:39actually, let's do something fun.
no entanto, lembre-se de quando você era um bebê
[81] 03:40Tell me where you live
Como você aprendeu sua primeira língua?
[82] 03:42and what temperature it is where you are right now
Sua língua materna
[84] 03:47I know my friends in Seville are really suffering
Assistindo ações
[85] 03:49with the heat
Você não aprendeu traduzindo
[87] 03:54I'm very sensitive.
porque você não tinha língua materna
[89] 03:59for a long time
e nós ainda achamos incrível
[92] 04:05So bear with me.
e você também deve aplicar isso para si
[94] 04:10Well, the first tip I can give you
do que só olhar algo no dicionário, sabe
[95] 04:14and this will not apply to everyone
e isso me leva ao próximo tópico
[96] 04:16is don't start in the first place.
Ai, Senhor, eu tô com tanto calor!
[97] 04:20If you're at like a beginner level of English,
e isso me leva à próxima observação que é
[98] 04:22some translation is inevitable,
Pegue seu dicionário bilíngue e jogue fora pela janela
[99] 04:26you're going to do it.
Não façam isso, tá? Pode cair na cabeça de alguém
[101] 04:32naranja, orange.
e em seguida, pegue seu dicionário monolíngue
[102] 04:33We learn through translation.
será que é essa mesmo a palavra?
[104] 04:39How did you acquire your first ever language,
na maioria dos casos, será inglês
[105] 04:43your mother tongue?
e comece deixar a língua se definir
[107] 04:49smelling, tasting, watching actions.
mas é isso que você precisa aprender observando
[111] 05:01So babies are capable of learning a language
o que me leva à minha terceira dica
[112] 05:04without any other language as reference,
Ai, meu Deus, que vídeo mais bem planejado este é
[118] 05:19And you need to apply this to yourself as well.
em aprender a pensar na língua
[120] 05:24by observing and taking things in
então, eu vou estar tipo:
[122] 05:31And that brings me onto my next point.
de qualquer forma, isso é o que eu faço
[126] 05:42and throw it out of the window.
procure começar a pensar
[127] 05:45Don't do that, okay,
agora, eu acho que a fala deve vir antes de começar a pensar
[131] 05:55is that the word for it?
mas pensar na outra língua, eu quero que você faça em todo canto
[132] 05:59And then pick up the dictionary
no ônibus, vendo o que passa
[136] 06:11So with words like nouns and verbs
eu sei, eu achei útil
[142] 06:27because what you're going to be doing
"Eu vou descer do ônibus" "Eu vou às lojas"
[144] 06:32that you're learning
Ah... aquela linda palavra: imersão
[145] 06:34which brings me on to my third point.
imergir-se, me leva à quinta dica que é: imersão
[146] 06:36Oh my God, what a beautifully
e essa na verdade, é uma das minhas palavras favoritas
[148] 06:40So my next two points
essa é boa, essa é uma palavra boa
[149] 06:42are about thinking and speaking to yourself
[150] 06:44in that language.
--150--
[151] 06:46Now, I actually recommend that you start
--151--
[152] 06:48by speaking out loud to yourself in the other language.
--152--
[153] 06:52I think I mentioned that in a video about conversation,
--153--
[154] 06:55improving your conversation and communication.
--154--
[155] 06:57If you're interested in that
--155--
[156] 06:59then you can watch that video just up there.
--156--
[157] 07:03However, speaking to yourself in that other language
--157--
[158] 07:05is a really, really key factor
--158--
[159] 07:08in learning to think in the language.
--159--
[160] 07:11So for example with Spanish, I'll be driving
--160--
[161] 07:14and I'll describe the movements
--161--
[162] 07:17that I'm going to be making with the car.
--162--
[163] 07:19I'll be like (speaking in foreign language).
--163--
[164] 07:26Anyway, that is what I do
--164--
[165] 07:28or I'll be puttering around my kitchen
--165--
[166] 07:31cooking and talking to myself
--166--
[167] 07:33about what I'm doing.
--167--
[168] 07:34And you will start to notice your own errors,
--168--
[169] 07:38especially when you hear yourself speaking out loud.
--169--
[170] 07:41Once you're comfortable speaking out loud
--170--
[171] 07:44to yourself in private in that additional language,
--171--
[172] 07:47move on to starting to think.
--172--
[173] 07:50Now, I think speaking should come before thinking
--173--
[174] 07:54but that's just my opinion.
--174--
[175] 07:55Everybody learns in different ways.
--175--
[176] 07:57I personally think it's easier to spot errors
--176--
[177] 08:01and get comfortable when you're speaking out loud.
--177--
[178] 08:05Now the speaking out loud,
--178--
[179] 08:07you should do in private
--179--
[180] 08:08but the thinking,
--180--
[181] 08:10I want you to do it everywhere,
--181--
[182] 08:12on the bus, seeing what goes past.
--182--
[183] 08:14It can relate to the video I made
--183--
[184] 08:17on how to learn and remember vocabulary
--184--
[185] 08:19which you can watch up here.
--185--
[186] 08:21It's a useful method
--186--
[187] 08:22where you observe everything around you
--187--
[188] 08:25and you check to see if you know it in your chosen language.
--188--
[189] 08:28The full explanation is in the video
--189--
[190] 08:29and some people have found that really, really useful.
--190--
[191] 08:32I know I found it useful.
--191--
[192] 08:33See if you can apply using a monolingual dictionary
--192--
[193] 08:37to that video.
--193--
[194] 08:38I think I recommend using a bilingual one.
--194--
[195] 08:41See if you can do it with an English dictionary.
--195--
[196] 08:43Yeah, so by thinking in English
--196--
[197] 08:46and I'm talking about describing people,
--197--
[198] 08:49if you see someone walking,
--198--
[199] 08:50think to yourself, that man is walking,
--199--
[200] 08:53he is walking down the street
--200--
[201] 08:54or just going through your motions.
--201--
[202] 08:57I am getting off the bus.
--202--
[203] 08:58I am going to go to the shops.
--203--
[204] 09:00In your head,
--204--
[205] 09:01you're just starting to immerse yourself in the language.
--205--
[206] 09:04Ah, that beautiful word, immerse,
--206--
[207] 09:08to immerse yourself,
--207--
[208] 09:09brings me on to point number five
--208--
[209] 09:12which is immersion.
--209--
[210] 09:14And that's actually one of my favourite words.
--210--
[211] 09:17I know I have a lot of favourite words
--211--
[212] 09:19but immersion, immersion, mmm, that's nice,
--212--
[213] 09:25that's a nice word.
--213--
[214] 09:26So immersion is something that you should be doing
--214--
[215] 09:29throughout your learning experience.
--215--
[216] 09:31And it's something you can do whilst multitasking
--216--
[217] 09:35which is one of my favourite things.
--217--
[218] 09:37So, when I'm doing something
--218--
[219] 09:39that doesn't require 100% concentration
--219--
[220] 09:42like cooking or cleaning,
--220--
[221] 09:45I always have something on in the background.
--221--
[222] 09:49Cleaning, cooking, washing the car, gardening, whatever,
--222--
[223] 09:56any task that allows you to listen to something else
--223--
[224] 09:59at the same time as doing something else,
--224--
[225] 10:02have something on in that language in the background.
--225--
[226] 10:05I know I'm saying it as if it's revolutionary
--226--
[227] 10:08but really, don't forget to do it.
--227--
[228] 10:10I know you can waste so much time
--228--
[229] 10:13and miss out on so much learning.
--229--
[230] 10:15By having it on in the background
--230--
[231] 10:17and not even listening,
--231--
[232] 10:18you will be getting used to pronunciation and accents.
--232--
[233] 10:23And by listening and concentrating on what they're saying,
--233--
[234] 10:25you will be familiarising yourself
--234--
[235] 10:28with certain grammar lexi,
--235--
[236] 10:29different vocabulary,
--236--
[237] 10:31but also, you will notice where you are lacking.
--237--
[238] 10:35So, if you listen to a radio programme about,
--238--
[239] 10:39I always say photography,
--239--
[240] 10:40what can I say?
--240--
[241] 10:42So if you listen to a radio programme about politics,
--241--
[242] 10:45for example.
--242--
[243] 10:46My last point is make it daily.
--243--
[244] 10:50Focus on frequency and consistency.
--244--
[245] 10:53I always say to my students
--245--
[246] 10:55that 20 minutes a day of high quality,
--246--
[247] 10:58not even studying,
--247--
[248] 11:00just language acquisition,
--248--
[249] 11:02language acquisition,
--249--
[250] 11:04I sometimes surprise myself
--250--
[251] 11:06with the words that come out of my mouth,
--251--
[252] 11:0820 minutes a day of high quality English time,
--252--
[253] 11:13there we are,
--253--
[254] 11:14that sounds more like something Lucy would say,
--254--
[255] 11:17is much, much, much more valuable
--255--
[256] 11:19than 140 minutes all in one day.
--256--
[257] 11:24So make the general immersion
--257--
[258] 11:27and the thinking and the speaking to yourself
--258--
[259] 11:29something that you do throughout your day.
--259--
[260] 11:31Make it part of your routine.
--260--
[261] 11:33Make it become automatic to you.
--261--
[262] 11:36I sometimes now go for an hour thinking in Spanish,
--262--
[263] 11:41you know, thinking out loud in my head in Spanish
--263--
[264] 11:45and then I realise and I go,
--264--
[265] 11:46"God, I've just been speaking in Spanish the whole time."
--265--
[266] 11:51And it's because I do it so often it becomes automatic.
--266--
[267] 11:55Then, the little tweaks
--267--
[268] 11:58and the little kind of self help part
--268--
[269] 12:01that you're doing at the end
--269--
[270] 12:02which is searching definitions for words,
--270--
[271] 12:06working on the grammar that you've identified
--271--
[272] 12:08that you're lacking in
--272--
[273] 12:09or attempting to expand your vocabulary,
--273--
[274] 12:11that should be short and it should be daily.
--274--
[275] 12:14Right guys, as always,
--275--
[276] 12:16I want to know your opinions.
--276--
[277] 12:18You guys are a bunch of extremely intelligent minds
--277--
[278] 12:22and I love hearing your recommendations
--278--
[279] 12:25and I apply them to my daily life as well.
--279--
[280] 12:27So I'd love to know something that helps you
--280--
[281] 12:30stop translating into your native language.
--281--
[282] 12:33I'm sure you've got lots to share.
--282--
[283] 12:36In my other video where I asked you
--283--
[284] 12:38how many languages you speak,
--284--
[285] 12:39some of you speak like seven languages
--285--
[286] 12:41which is unbelievable,
--286--
[287] 12:44really awesome, really impressive,
--287--
[288] 12:46honoured to have a group of students like you guys.
--288--
[289] 12:49But yeah, so please share your recommendations
--289--
[290] 12:51and your experience in the comments below
--290--
[291] 12:54and also, constructive criticism is completely welcome.
--291--
[292] 12:58So if you don't agree with something I say,
--292--
[293] 13:00say it, just say it in a nice way
--293--
[294] 13:03because I like everyone to be respectful here.
--294--
[295] 13:05But I'm not the goddess of English.
--295--
[296] 13:08What I say doesn't go.
--296--
[297] 13:10But I really do hope that I help you.
--297--
[298] 13:13That's it for the video today.
--298--
[299] 13:15Don't forget to check out Lingoda
--299--
